The IdeasAmerica Association annually recognizes the best ideas submitted from employees of its organizational members. In 2010, more than 100 ideas were submitted from around the world for consideration.  Scroll down for information about previous award winners.
  
Nationally Recognized Awards

The IA’s national awards program is designed to recognize the employee involvement professional and idea programs for their achievements. The Idea of the Year and the Evaluator of the Year Awards recognize employee participation in suggestion programs.

Each award winner will be recognized at the IdeasAmerica Association’s Annual Training and Networking Conference, also in the IA Ideas & Inspirations newsletter, and on the IA web site. A print press release will be provided for each recipient.  Awards will be made in one or more of the Award Categories listed below.  The 2011 conference will be held 14 September - 16 September in San Antonia, TX.  Click here for more information about the conference.

Submission of an entry to the IA Awards program includes permission to have the company’s name noted in press releases about the award winners. Specific information about ideas or programs will not be included in the press release without the formal approval of the company submitting the entry.

IMPORTANT! Gold Finalists are asked to prepare a table top display to share the benefits of their idea with other conference participants.  This display may include exhibits prepared for the judging process.

 

GREEN IDEA OF THE YEAR AWARD
Again this year, the Green Idea of the Year Award recognizes the most significant ideas implemented by companies throughout the previous calendar year. This prestigious and rigorous competition seeks to recognize the originators of the best ideas and their organizations.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any organization that has a suggestion system or employee involvement program
§         Any idea that was implemented during the year 2010
§         Finalists must be able to attend the Annual IA Conference to present their idea to the judges. Team finalists must send at least one member to present the idea to the judges to be selected of winning idea.
o        Gold finalists will be asked to present and staff a display during the IA Conference demonstrating the idea and its implementation. Components of this display may be used during the Gold finalist judging at the IA Conference
 
 INSTRUCTIONS
§         Complete the 2011 Green Idea of the Year Competition Nomination form
§         Save your Acrobat file with the following name: GIOTY-CompanyName-#.pdf
§         Submit the Green Idea of the Year Competition Nomination form and any supporting documentation electronically
§         Supporting documentation is limited to 4 items and should be submitted in the same email
§         Please be sure that no proprietary information is included in the nomination information
§         Multiple entries are permitted but should be emailed separately
§         Entries must be submitted no later than midnight, 20 May 2011 to [email protected] IA will acknowledge receipt of all entries
 
CRITERIA
§         Clearly identify the problem and the solution
§         Provide a succinct (35 words or less) summary of the idea
§         List specific details of the idea that make it unique, significant, different, etc.
§         List all benefits from the implemented idea:
§         Tangible / Intangible
§         Financial (must be supported with evidence)
§         Identify which category(ies) this Green Idea of the Year achieved:
o        A reduction in the use of raw materials (as from recycling)
o        A reduction in the volume of by-products or wastes being generated
o        A reduction or elimination in the toxicity of materials being used or the wastes being produced
o        A reduction in the use of energy
o        Benefits to the environment
 
JUDGING
§         A committee of independent judges will be evaluating each nomination based on points accumulated and how well documentation provided supports nomination criteria.
 
TEAM IDEA COMPETITION AWARD
The Team Idea Competition Award recognizes the most significant team ideas implemented by organizational members throughout the previous calendar year. It is estimated that our member organizations receive numerous team ideas per year. This competition seeks to recognize the originators of the best and their organizations.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any IA member organization
§         Any team (3 or more members) idea that was implemented during the year 2010. Finalists must be able to attend the Annual IA Conference to present their idea to the judges. Substitute presenters will not be permitted. Team finalists must send at least one member to present the idea to the judges to be selected of winning team.
 
INSTRUCTIONS
§         Complete and submit the 2011 Team Idea of the Year Nomination form  
§         Supporting documentation is limited to 4 items
§         Multiple entries are permitted but should be packaged separately
§         Entries must be submitted electronically or postmarked no later than 20 May 2011
 
CRITERIA
§         Clearly identify the team idea/suggestion and results
§         Provide a succinct (35 words or less) summary of the idea
§         List specific details of the team idea that make it unique, significant, different, etc.
§         List all benefits from the implemented idea:
o        Tangible
o        Intangible (safety, quality, etc.)
o        Financial (must be supported with evidence)
o        Recurring

BEST PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AWARD
The Best Program Administration Award recognizes those who make the most impact to their program – the Administrator(s). This competition highlights the important role of the administrator(s) and will honor and recognize those whose contribution are exceptional and demonstrate best practices. Winning this competition will be a great bonus for your program and will be an example to others that the role of administrator does get public recognition. We are particularly looking to honor those individuals you hold in high regard for the contribution they make to your organizations program.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any IA member organization
§         Any Best Program Administration in your organization may be nominated
§         There is no limit on the number of applications that organizations may submit
§         Finalists and/or the program administrator should be able to attend the Annual IA Conference.
 
INSTRUCTIONS
§         Complete the 2011 Best Program Administration Nomination form
§         Submit this form electronically with any supporting documentation. Supporting documentation should be limited to no more than three or four items.
§         The judges have absolute discretion, and their decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into. The judges reserve the right to award prizes only if entries reach a required standard.
§         Multiple entries are permitted but should be packaged separately.
 
CRITERIA
§         Models/values employee involvement
§         Encourages employee participation
§         Demonstrates planning and organizational skills
§         Demonstrates program promotions and recognition activities
§         Demonstrates exceptional customer service to the employees
§         Continuously sends positive message about program
§         Positively manages the program and introduces new and exciting ways to grow it
 
AWARD
§         The award winner will be recognized at the IA Annual Conference, in the Ideas & Inspirations newsletter, and on the IA web site. A print press release will be provided for each recipient.
 
JUDGING
§         A committee of independent judges will be evaluating each nomination based on points accumulated and how well documentation provided supports nomination criteria.
 
ADVOCATE AWARD
This award recognizes individuals or member(s) of a team who are true advocates for any aspect of employee involvement within their organization. Advocate award recipients are continuously involved and are walking advertisements for employee involvement.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any IA organizational or individual member is eligible. Members may nominate anyone within their organization, including themselves (self-nominations will be validated by the organization).
 
INSTRUCTIONS
§         Complete a 2011 Annual Awards Nomination Form. Be sure to check the appropriate award category.
§         Limit your nomination write-up to no more than two (2) typed pages (8½ x 11”).
§         Limit supporting documentation and/or samples to no more than three (3) pages.
§         Submit the nomination form and write-up to IA electronically
§         Advocate Awards must be e-mailed to [email protected] on or before 20 May, or postmarked no later than 20 May 2011
 
CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION/CONSIDERATION
§         Demonstrates on-going support of employee involvement through daily actions
§         Coaches/teaches co-workers about employee involvement
§         Promotes and encourages employee involvement participation
§         Sparks excitement and interest in employees
§         Sets high standards by their own participation
§         Leads employee involvement initiatives and activities
§         Models positive behavior and motivates others
 
COMMUNICATION EXCELLENCE IN ACTION AWARD
This award recognizes the importance of communications in creating awareness and excitement for employee involvement. Good communication is key to the success of any employee involvement activity.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any IA member organization is eligible.
 
CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION/CONSIDERATION
§         Models/values employee involvement
§         Encourages employee participation
§         Continuously sends a positive message i.e. employee involvement
§         Demonstrates planning and organizational skills
§         Shows projected results/effectiveness of the activity
 
AWARD CATEGORIES
§         Communication or Marketing Plan (formal written document)
§         Audio Visual (multi-media technologies)
§         Publications (newsletters, brochures, annual reports)
§         Special Projects (posters, displays, bulletin boards, photos, flyers, signs, multimedia)
§         Electronic Communications (electronic newsletters, web sites, use of new technology, internet and intranet sites)
§         Promotions (program promotions and recognition activities)

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP AWARD
This award has been established to recognize the importance of executive management's continuous support for employee involvement.  By recognizing these executive leaders for their commitment, IA reinforces the significance of their role in the endeavor of employee involvement.  Nominees must demonstrate achievement in two key areas; leadership skills, and employee involvement activities.
 
ELIGIBILITY
§         Any IA member organization. Any employee within the organization may make the nomination. Nominees must hold a leadership position within the organization and visibly support employee involvement.
 
INSTRUCTIONS
§         Complete a 2011 Annual Awards Nomination Form. Be sure to check the appropriate award category.
§         Limit your nomination write-up to no more than two (2) typed pages (8½ x 11”).
§         Limit supporting documentation and/or samples to no more than three (3) pages. You may provide a URL where this documentation is posted for the judges’ review.
§         Submit the nomination form and write-up to IA electronically
