EIA Blog - Benchmarking
With the release of the EIA Statistical Report to EIA members, we can now share some of the very useful information in this report. Here's a excerpt on the VALUE OF A SUGGESTION PROGRAM:
All survey respondents were asked what impact they felt the suggestion program had on their organization. A tabulation of the answers showed some common themes.
Cost Savings
Mentioned most often by all respondents was that suggestion programs had cost savings impact on their company. Savings were produced through process improvements, eliminating waste, reducing defects and cycle time.
Employee Engagement
Almost as frequently cited was the impact on employees. Program administrators saw improved morale, better communications, employee growth and development, more teamwork and proactive work actions. They also gained better insight into employee strengths and talents. Suggestion programs provided additional employee recognition and tapped intrinsic motivation towards performance, leading to a stronger sense of ownership and commitment.
Safety
The third highest area of program impact was safety. Most of the programs encourage safety improvements as an eligible category. The importance was seen not only to identify and correct problems, but also to increase the speed of response to issues.
Additional related impacts, particularly for service industry programs, were for increased customer satisfaction, increased product quality and revenue enhancement.
